random observations

1. i'm pretty sure i've become more socially "awkward" as i get older. i can't tell if it's because i interact less with (new) people, or if it's because i care less about what people think... but really, i'm losing my touch.

1b. ok, now that i've thought about it some more... it's not when i'm around all people. i'm good around children, gay men, some women, and oddly enough -- married men. i'm really awkward around single (available, straight) men and aggressive lesbians. neither populations with whom i'm in frequent contact... which could be the reason why i'm awkward around them.

2. online "dating" is a crock of shit.

2b. perhaps i'm not being open-minded enough.

2c. apparently the only profiles i find "attractive" are not within a 50-mile radius of my current location. in fact, there are significantly MORE profiles i find attractive on the west coast than anywhere east of the mississippi river that i'm wondering if a. i need to move out west, or b. am i intentionally sand-bagging these poor suckers in atlanta because i'm afraid to give any of them a chance?

i'm inclined to say it's a.  but really, far too many of the profiles i come across in atlanta either a. reference god/the Bible/religion/being pro-conservative/want a family!/etc.etc.etc. or b. are just really NOT at all physically attractive or c. are so similar that i swear everyone has copied/pasted everyone else's profile...

am i being too judgmental? are my standards too high? i mean, i know my profile isn't *that* interesting either, but at least my "what do you do on a friday night" answer doesn't involve "pre-gaming at a friend's house," "going out to buckhead," "drinking in the highlands/midtown/L5P/EAV," or "going to a show (that no one's heard about because i'm super hipster and cooler than you)"

2d. i'm trying not to read into it, but the only interesting person i went on a "date" with changed his profile in the days following to basically say something about how he's interacted with too many people who sound interesting on paper but are really uninteresting in real life.

OMG! AM I BORING?!

friends - help me out here.... what gives? am i boring? is my self-image so skewed that i might think i'm interesting, but in reality... my conversation sucks? (actually, you know... he might be onto something here. reading back on some of these entries...i'm really not that exciting.) but how can i be that boring after one one-hour conversation?!

also, how does a nice single girl meet a nice single boy here in atlanta without going online or being drunk? because apparently i'm not capable of either, but i don't seem to be having any luck just making things happen "organically"...
however, i'm very good at making friends with children, gay men, some women, and oddly enough -- married men (see 1b.)

*SIGH*

and now i'm going to go home, eat dinner, read, and go to bed.

i.
am.
so.
boring.
